Lake Drummond Pictures
I left from the Ballahack boat ramp around mid-morning, and arrived at the spillway shortly after noon.  After exploring the campground and moving the kayak across to the Lake side of the spillway, I kayaked across Lake Drummond to its northernmost point.  I arrived at the Washington Ditch 'observatory' after 3 p.m.  It felt good to stand up while I ate my sandwich.  After a rest, I started back in the general direction of the Feeder Ditch exit.  But would I find it before dark?  That was the question.
Northern Telescope Under sunny skies
At the Washington Ditch 'observatory'.  The pier juts out directly to the south.  The Feeder Ditch is across the lake somewhere to the south-southeast. Only small clouds in the sky.  The air was crisp and clear.  I headed toward the southeast.  All of the shoreline looks like this.  Uninhabited.  Unspoiled.  I am alone with my thoughts on the lake.
Lonesome cypress
A Cypress family
As I pass the midpoint of my trek back to the south, trees stand apart from the others far out in the lake.  This is most common on the southeastern side of the lake.
Further south, more trees stand knee-deep in water.  Now two or three cypress trees stand together, applauding my return.
Outward bound Feeder ditch exit
Far to the south I can just barely make out the green and the red flags.  Now I know I will not sleep sitting in the kayak this night. The yellow sign is now visible.  Note the small opening on the right leading to the spillway and the campground.  If I had waited to look for this exit after sundown, I would have surely missed it.
At the campground
On the other side
I am approaching the spillway from the Lake Drummond side.  The noise of the tons of water cascading out of the lake is deafening.  What is the source of all of this water?  There are no rivers bringing in water to Lake Drummond.  Only man-made ditches taking water elsewhere.
My sunburned legs tell me they will not find sleep in the sleeping bag tonight.  Maybe that's just an excuse, but I move the kayak to the Feeder Ditch side anyway.  The unused tent and sleeping bag will have to wait.  Tonight, I sleep at home.
